Our focus at Recruit.net is to cater to the needs of the job seeker. Our belief from day 1 was that if we delivered the best job search experience to our users then everything else would fall into place. It is based on that conviction that we have grown from a 2 person project into a global network of 14 localized job search engines, with over 1 million registered users, powering more than 30 million job searches per month.

The core of our service and our mission is to help people finds jobs and this has now been reflected in our new corporate tag line.

Today we are introducing a new re-engineered Recruit.net that provides a faster, richer, job search experience.

Some highlights:

• Bigger, faster engine. Imagine replacing a single propeller airplane with a turbo charged jet. The goal here is deliver faster, more powerful search results from the thousands of web sites around the world.

• New design. Clean, simple, search based design that helps you search, sort, filter and save the job listings.

• Social connections. A new interface that allows you to leverage your social networks to find contacts and friends of friends that work at specific companies which are interesting to you.

• Trending companies. A new feature which displays trending companies that are actively hiring based on the moving average of jobs they have posted online.

The Apple-Android smartphone battle is fast making its way from courtroom to the interview room. Data from recruitment portal Recruit.net shows that when hiring application developers, more employers now favour candidates with Android programming experience over those specialising in Apple’s iOS platform.

The term “Android” which refers to Google’s mobile operating system appears in 14,733 of the global job listings, while “iPhone” and “iOS” mentions trail sharply behind at 8,847 and 11,264 respectively.

The pattern speaks to the increasing number of smartphone and tablet users opting for Android which has been made popular by products from Google, Samsung and Amazon over arch rival Apple and their iOS platform which runs on iPad’s and iPhone’s

A Gartner survey conducted earlier this year found that Android devices now account for 56 per cent of smartphone market share globally, with iOS devices attributing for just 23 per cent.

Data from Recruit.net’s Job Index (see below) meanwhile point to a widening disparity between mentions of the platforms in job listings.

Demand gap between Android and iOS developers continues to widen.
